Handles shall conform to Military Standard MIL-STD-1472B and Military Specification MIL-C-4150H. Each case shall be equipped with 6 spring loaded, folding, recessed, stainless steel handles. They shall be mounted 1 at each end and 2 inch each side of the base.
Handles shall be spring loaded so as to fold down against the side of the case automatically when not in use. They shall stop open at approximately 90 degrees when extended for use. The grip diameter shall be not less than 1/2 inch (1.27 cm). The clear inside dimension shall be not less than 4-1/2 inches (11.25 cm) in length and 2-1/8 inches (5.31 cm) in depth.
Handles shall be of heavy-duty design and made of stainless steel. Handles shall be affixed to the case walls with stainless steel bolts and nuts, and backplates to strengthen attachment. Gasketing material shall insure water tightness.
Provision shall be made to permit field replacement of worn or damaged handles with the use of simple common hand tools; for example, wrenches, pliers, etc., without destroying the waterproof seal.
Each case shall have molded-in male and female positive lock stacking ribs. Four (4) male ribs shall extend above the top surface of the case lid, and four (4) female ribs shall be recessed into the bottom of the base. Size and location of the ribs shall be in strict accordance with the dimensions and tolerances shown on DPSC drawing 24539. The ribs shall provide a stable stacking configuration with a minimum of movement in any direction. Proof of stacking strength shall be determined by Test Method 5016.1 (Superimposed Load Test) Federal Standard 101 C. Cases must be able to support the weight of like cases to a height of 16 feet (4.88 meters).
Each case shall be equipped with a vacuum/pressure relief valve to equalize the air pressure inside the case with that of the outside air. The valve shall be in accordance with Military Specification MIL-V-27166, type 3, with reseal pressures of 5 psig pressure and 2 psig vacuum. The valve shall be installed in the recessed portion of the lid on one side. It shall not protrude beyond the outside edge of the case. The valve assembly shall be replaceable with the use of standard hand tools. The valve shall be of aluminum construction conforming to MIL-V-27166. Aluminum used shall conform to Federal Specification QQ-A-22516. Care shall be taken as not to cover the inside of the PRV with cushioning material which would render it ineffectual.
All fittings shall be self-draining, and shall be attached to the case so that there will be no ingress of water.
