The case shall be marked externally with one aluminum-metal, phototype, or equal label attached to the front right side of the case below the handle. The label shall include the Caduceus medical symbol; the item identification “CASE, MEDICAL, SHIPPING, AND STORAGE”, the National Stock Number; the nominal inside dimensions; manufacturers part number and manufacturers name.
The case shall have 4 black arrows placed on it to indicate its “up” position on both the front and back in 2 places each.
There shall be no nutrient materials used in the construction of the cases that will support fungal life.
Where unpainted aluminum is used, it shall be protected in accordance with MIL-A-8625, type II, anodic coating.
Cases shall have a tongue and groove closure at the parting line, and be so designed that structural loads shall not be transmitted to the closure gasket. Cases shall have double wall construction at the parting line for additional strength. Pre-formed gaskets that can be readily replaced without the use of special tools, and which are retained in place by the structure, shall be used. One piece gaskets are preferred but joints may be cemented or joined by vulcanizing provided the joints are the same dimensions as any other place on the gasket. Nominal gasket compression shall be 15% to 25%, and shall be sufficient to preclude case leakage, when pressurized 1/2 PSI above the valve pressure. Closure structure shall prevent the compression of the gasket beyond 50%.
Shall permit rapid and unpacking without the use of tools by personnel wearing gloves or artic mittens. Each closure fastener shall be 1/4 turn, heavy duty, fastener conforming to the provisions of Military Specification MIL-C-4150H. One each shall be mounted on each end, and four each mounted on each side for a total of ten each. Each device shall be recessed and shall not protrude beyond the outside edge of the case wall when in a locked position. Fasteners shall be constructed of stainless steel, and shall be mounted to the case with stainless steel rivets. Backplates shall be used to strengthen the mounting of the fasteners to the case walls. They shall not interfere with the cover removal when unlatched.
Provisions shall be made to permit field replacement of worn or damaged fasteners with the use of simple common hand tools, for waterproof seal.
